417 - Series 1 vs Series 2?

There is not really a 417 series 1 and 2. it is only the 8H model that has two versions. The series 2 has an aluminum former, and the voice coil is slightly heavier. The difference is subtle, but the 2 has slightly less highs. The preferred 417 is the C model, both the H models had tweaks to make them handle more power.

Thanks....... I almost asked the differance the other day. I don't know which version I have. They were in 1221A stage monitors and only have the part number stamped on the bare motor.

Most newer ones are stepped mags. I THINK the C kit fits all, but not sure which parts Bill has.

Mine are not stepped. I never knew of the step was part of the motor, or simply a cover. Sounds like I have the first 417-8H.

Hostboard member "417 - Alnico" is very deep down the proverbial rabbit hole ( so to speak ) when relating to these speakers .

If you have the time & inclination , my recollection is that his musings are well worth sifting through .

For the guitarist ( seeking a particular "sound" ), his impressions/speculations of the various permutations & historical developments of the 417 are pretty interesting ( at least to me ! ) .

Looks like that to me. That would be much newer than a 70's cone. I do not have my sheets to look up numbers, so I'm running on a memory that has holes like Swiss cheese.
